The baby needs to wear a helmet, and in solidarity, his whole family too

Jonas Gutiérrez is 4 months old and was diagnosed with plagiocephaly, also known as the "flat head syndrome", a very common head deformity in newborns. The doctors told him that he should wear an orthopedic helmet for three to six months to correct the shape of his head, and not to feel different, out of solidarity, everyone in the family decided to wear helmets too.

Seeing the baby with a helmet, his sister Camila, three years old, had the great occurrence of putting on his pink bike helmet to be just like Jonas, and his father Gary, also added to the idea.

The family of San Antonio, Texas, has become famous without waiting for it, since as soon as the photo was shared on Twitter by Shea Serrano, cousin of the baby, the story soon went viral with almost 30,000 retweets and almost 117,000 likes.

How to prevent plagiocephaly

This deformity is caused by always placing the baby in the same face up, causing the baby's skull, which is still very soft and flexible, to flatten. Almost half of the babies present plagiocephaly to a greater or lesser extent at the age of two months.

To avoid it, it is recommended do not always put the baby to bed, but to alternate the head tilted to both sides. Sleeping on your back remains the recommended posture to reduce the risk of sudden death, but this causes more and more children to have deformity in the head than if they slept on their side.

It is also advised alternate the arm with which we take the baby, so that the pressure of the head on the arm is not always on the same side.

Once you are able to hold your head, it is convenient place the baby upside down when awake, in a little while. In this way, you avoid having your head supported and in the process begins to strengthen the muscles of the neck, back and arms.
