Edible masks. Carnival Recipe

Although the last day of carnival is approaching, I did not want to let the day go by without showing you this fun recipe, ideal for those who gather to celebrate the popular together Burial of the Sardine. It's about edible eye masks, a carnival recipe that I saw here and that I loved. Encourage them to prepare these masks that they will surely have to talk at your friends meetings.

When preparing them I have remembered the ones we did two years ago, when I prepared a recipe for masks made of puff pastry and decorated with chocolate, in which my nieces made models. In any case, the edible masks that I teach you today are great as a dessert or for a snack and the best thing is that they are prepared in a very short time, and if you want, with the help of the children.

Ingredients for 15 masks

  • 1 M egg, 4 tablespoons of milk, 4 tablespoons of liquor, 40 g of butter, lemon zest, 220 g of flour, icing sugar, frying oil and honey to decorate
  • We will also need baking paper and a piece of cardboard to make the template

How to make carnival edible masks

We prepare the dough, whisking together the egg with the milk the liquor, the butter melted in the microwave, a teaspoon of icing sugar and adding the flour little by little. When we have the more or less homogeneous mass, we stop and let stand for 15 minutes.

In that time, we do the design of our mask, which we then cut into a cardboard to serve as a template. Children can help us with the design. We spread a sheet of baking paper and varnish it with oil, and on it we stretch the dough with the help of a roller, also impregnated with oil.

With the template as a model and a sharp knife we are cutting the masks, taking advantage of the dough. Then, we remove the excesses, cut the paper into pieces and fry them - with paper and everything - in a pan with very hot oil, allowing them to brown slightly and removing them as soon as they begin to inflate.

We left stand on absorbent paper and sprinkle with icing sugar when we go to serve. We put all the cuts together again and stretch them again, repeating the operation of cutting the masks and frying them until the dough is finished. You will see how crispy and how rich they are.

Tasting

The Carnival masks are a very delicious dessert, although I prefer to take them at snack time, with a coffee or a rich infusion. This variation on the traditional recipe of carnival ears, is a fun way to put an end to our Carnival parties.
