Scientific crafts: An erupting volcano

My son has done a project on climate change at school and, among other activities, I had to do an erupting volcano. The craft is quite simple and we have shared it with our younger friends, who have had a wonderful time with her.

The necessary materials are: clay or plasticine, baking soda, coloring, liquid soap and a quarter cup of vinegar.

We have to model the volcano, and you can even paint it and decorate it with trees if you want. In the center of the mountain you have to make a hole with a wooden stick or a test tube, which will be the crater. Then put a teaspoon of baking soda, a few drops of dye and a little liquid soap. And then… attention, the vinegar is added and the rash begins, produced by the reaction made by the different elements. Orange lava will spill out of the crater and slide down the slopes naturally.

We must protect the surface on which we are going to work with a plastic or with newspapers, so that everything is not stained with the "rash".

This type of recreational and educational activities fulfill a double function: on the one hand they provide the possibility of exercising motor skills and on the other they are a perfect excuse to spend a very pleasant time with our children preparing the materials and accompanying them, according to their age, in their realization.

This Erupting volcano It is one of the funniest scientific crafts with which we can introduce our children to the mysteries of Nature.
