First World Day of Birth Defects

Today, March 3, the First World Day of Birth Defects to raise awareness about the importance of preventing possible risks in pregnancy. More than eight million children worldwide are born every year with a serious birth defect, the main cause of death during the first year of life and other consequences such as disability or chronic illness.

It is not to alarm, but a reality in which we must work together (parents, governments, organizations, researchers and medical professionals) to improve the prevention, medical care and investigation of congenital defects. Therefore, more than a dozen international organizations, including March of Dimes, have joined to establish this First World Day of Birth Defects.
