Seven homemade, rich and healthy ice cream recipes for children

Yesterday we clarified some of the questions that arise to parents when our children ask us to eat an ice cream. One of them referred to types of ice cream there and its composition, and we wondered if there is the option of "healthy ice cream".

As we saw, the answer is yes, and not only is available to everyone but it is a wonderful activity to do with kids in summer: make our own homemade ice cream. Using fresh and quality ingredients, and avoiding free sugars, we will have a refreshing, healthy and irresistible alternative to any palate.

Ingredients that don't fail!

To make a rich and healthy homemade ice cream, we can use a lot of natural ingredients that will give our recipe an irresistible flavor and creaminess that nothing will have to envy to commercial ice cream.

Our Vitónica colleagues propose in this article to always have the following ingredients on hand:

  • Fruits: any fruit is good to prepare a delicious homemade ice cream or granita, although the ideal is always to resort to seasonal fruits for their quality and accentuated flavor. As also, we want make ice cream free of added sugars, it is best to opt for fruits with an especially sweet taste.

Bananas, melon, watermelon, mango, strawberries and red fruits, grapes, pineapple ... The variety is immense, and in addition to flavor we will be giving our ice cream vitamins and fiber!

  • Bet on quality fats: The vast majority of commercial ice cream carry trans fat, palm oil or a high saturated fat index. With homemade ice cream we can avoid or control the amounts of these fats by resorting to certain ingredients to provide our ice cream with greater creaminess.

Peanut butter (or nuts, in general), milk, plain yogurt, unsweetened and tasteless Greek yogurt, vegetable drinks, beaten cheese, tahna, pure cocoa, grated coconut, Avocado, seeds or nuts, can become great allies in the kitchen.

  • To sweeten: we will try to avoid sugar (whatever its type), sweetened or flavored yogurts, honey and syrups. Instead we will use natural sweeteners such as dates or stevia.

  • Topping: and we cannot forget the final touch that will turn any ice cream into something irresistible. We can sprinkle it on top with pieces of fruit, pure chocolate in seeds or grated, grated coconut, seeds, nuts, cinnamon ... Blow the imagination to get a personalized ice cream!

Mango, banana and raspberry popsicles

In Vitónica they teach us this simple recipe of fruit poles where we will only need five ingredients: mango, banana, 80 grams of raspberries, the juice of half an orange and vanilla essence.

We must make sure that the fruit is of quality and is very ripe, so that our poles have a sweet taste. We will beat all the ingredients, freeze in units and when ready ... enjoy!

Creamy pineapple and coconut ice cream

Live to the Palate share this delicious recipe for ice cream made from fresh pineapple and a coconut milk litho. Mix in the blender and freeze: the result is a spectacular and creamy ice cream It will delight any palate.

Strawberry Banana Sorbet

The sorbet is an exquisite and refreshing way to drink fruit, and this recipe that we share with you from Vitónica is also very easy to prepare, since we're just going to need a ripe banana and four or five big strawberries.

So that our sorbet is especially creamy, the trick is to freeze the clean fruit, peeled and cut into pieces two hours before its elaboration, and when we take it out of the freezer, crush it at maximum speed until obtaining a dense and really appetizing cream.

Cherry and yogurt ice cream

Live to the Palate share this other recipe for cherry ice cream and yogurt with a surprising pint. To prepare it we will only need 500 grams of cherries (one of the star fruits of the summer!) And a natural unsweetened yogurt.

Don't forget to choose ripe cherries to give our ice cream a sweet taste. We have to bone the cherries and freeze them next to the yogurt, and then crush it in a blender until we get a dense cream that we can serve in a glass accompanied by the topping that we like the most.

Banana ice cream

Banana is an ingredient that, as you can see, It gives a lot of play when preparing desserts and ice cream. On this occasion our companions of Direct to the Palate propose to combine it with coconut milk to obtain an irresistible ice cream.

Although the original recipe includes sugar in its preparation, the truth is that if the bananas are ripe it will not be necessary to add anything else, since coconut milk also has a quite sweet taste.

It is a very simple and quick recipe to prepare although it needs a minimum of three hours of freezing to obtain the desired creaminess and texture.

Natural strawberry ice cream

In Vitónica we propose this irresistible and creamy ice cream made with strawberries and fresh smoothie cheese. To prepare it we will need 400 grams of strawberries, a large-sized banana, half a glass of milk or a vegetable drink of soy or oatmeal, the juice of half a lemon and two cups of fresh beaten cheese.

The day before making our ice cream, we must freeze the fruit already peeled and cut into pieces. On the day of preparation we must beat the rest of the ingredients in a blender and when ready we will incorporate the frozen fruit and continue crushing until a thick mixture is obtained.

We can serve with topping of red fruits or pure chocolate, whose flavor will contrast irresisitibly with the acid touch that will bring lemon juice to our ice cream.

Mango and banana sorbet

And finally, we share this other recipe of Vitónica whose mixture of flavors will fascinate you. We will need a medium-sized mango, two bananas, half a bar or tablet of pure chocolate and two tablespoons of milk.

As in other previous recipes, you must peel, wash and freeze previously the fruit cut into pieces, and at the time of preparation we will incorporate it into the blender along with the rest of the ingredients.

We can serve it in glasses with the topping that we like the most, although adding pure grated chocolate will make it even more irresistible if possible.
