The vaccine schedule is a tool of great importance and necessary for the health of our children, it is up to the children to prevent or suffer from various diseases. But nevertheless, more than half of the Spanish population does not know what vaccines are necessary, against what diseases they act and when they should be administered to small children. This follows from a study carried out by a group of experts belonging to the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Unit of the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid.
A nationwide survey that the Ministry of Health conducts every two years, raises several questions to the population, of which the team of experts highlights the following, "For which of the following diseases is vaccination officially recommended in Spain?" results leave no doubt, less and less is known about vaccines, their application or the diseases for which they are indicated. According to the researchers, the fear of several diseases has been lost because their incidence has been reduced or eliminated by the administration of vaccines, parents vaccinate their children because the calendar marks it, but they do not know many related aspects and the importance of the vaccine, they know that it is beneficial for the child and that is enough for them. As specialists say, it is a curious fact, since the vaccination coverage reaches 98% of the child population, it is understandable that almost half of the parents are unaware of some of the aspects that we have mentioned before.
Another highlight of the study is the relationship of the educational level of the parents with the knowledge of the vaccination calendar, those who had the highest educational level were those who least knew about the calendar, while the parents who were unemployed were those who More informed were in this regard, experts indicate that there is no explanation as to why so much ignorance about the vaccination calendar.
The conclusion is as follows, parents vaccinate their children by inertia, without knowing for sure why, why or against what and it will not be because there is no information on the subject. Fortunately there is a medical staff that guides them, but it is necessary for parents to know all these points, knowledge and understanding always improve the degree of action.
