DGT information website: learn about child restraint systems

On the website of The General Directorate of Traffic found an informative section focused on publicizing child restraint systems (SRI). We found the data from group 0 to group III, as well as information about the Isofix system.

It is intended to inform in a clear and schematic way, although I would say too briefly, but what interests me most is the section with eight basic rules that we should keep in mind and that we happen to remember.

To these rules are added "the golden one": buy and correctly place approved devices, and use them properly.

  • Never carry the baby in your arms, since in case of an accident it becomes a heavy projectile that cannot be retained.
  • Choose the system or device according to the size and weight of the child, not according to age.
  • Install the device correctly in the vehicle, following the factory instructions and always place the child with the belts and other devices properly fastened.
  • In the chairs, the harness of 5 adjustment points is preferable than that of 4.
  • Children under 4 years of age should use devices in the opposite direction.
  • If the car has an air bag for the passenger and the chair is facing away, always place the child in the back seat.
  • Do not let the child go between the seats, or touching buttons or handles of windows or doors that must be secured.
  • Preach by example, putting on belts and not violating traffic regulations.

These are basic rules, although for more information we refer you to our previously published articles and that further analyze child restraint systems.
