YouTube prohibits dangerous challenges involving minors and abusive jokes that cause emotional harm to children

In addition to cyberbullying or grooming, one of the things that most worries parents when our children start surfing the Internet, is that have access to violent or inappropriate content.

Education in a responsible use of technologies is essential, but it also helps the fact that some social networks are reinforcing their access policies and cleaning inappropriate content. Such is the case of YouTube, which has just announced ban videos of jokes or viral challenges that can cause some kind of physical or psychological damage to Internet users, especially minors.

Updated policies on dangerous or harmful content

As we can read in the rules of the YouTube community, the social network has recently tightened its policies on dangerous or harmful content, in order to especially protect minors, of those videos that contain jokes or viral challenges that involve a risk to physical or emotional health.

"We recently announced changes in our policies of jokes and dangerous challenges. The challenges that represent risk of death (both real and simulated) are not allowed on YouTube. In the same way, minors are not allowed to participate in dangerous challenges that may pose an imminent risk of injury or physical damage. "

"Nor are jokes allowed to make victims believe that they are in physical danger or that they can cause real physical harm. In addition, they are prohibited dangerous or abusive jokes that can cause emotional harm to minors".

In Babies and more, youtubers are sentenced to five years who mistreated and humiliated their children

From the "Questions and answers" section, YouTube informs users that you are working directly with child psychologists, in order to develop the guidelines to identify what kind of jokes cross the mentioned line.

A period of two months to remove videos that violate these rules

Users who have uploaded videos to YouTube, will now have two months to remove all those challenges and jokes whose content violates community norms. After that time, it will be the portal itself who reviews the content and removes videos that do not conform to the rules.

In addition, they encourage users to report any content they deem inappropriate.

Youtube "puts the batteries"

In recent years, YouTube has faced many complaints from users, especially of those of us who have children, for having millions of videos on their platform with deceptive, disturbing or inappropriate content for children.

Thanks to the complaints of Internet users, some channels have already been completely removed, like that of the youtuber father who hung videos using heavy jokes on his girls, or that of those parents who humiliated their children in front of the cameras.

In Babies and more, what measures should we take to protect our children on YouTube?

For all this, a little over a year ago YouTube began to tighten its content policies, in order to prevent children from having access to this type of videos. At first, the measures that were taken were aimed at restricting the advertising of the videos, but as it was not enough, the platform included a new policy of age restrictions and new parental control options for its child application.

In addition, it was decided to go one step further with the hiring of 10,000 people, whose sole function was to review and analyze the videos of the platform, so that inappropriate content was removed more quickly and efficiently.

The new measure announced on restrictions of dangerous or harmful content is already being applauded by Internet users. And it is incredible the amount of stupid challenges that quickly become viral, despite posing a serious health risk.

But in spite of all these measures, and of the parental controls that we decide to apply, we insist again on the importance of educating our children in the responsible use of social networks, because it is not enough to inform them superficially about the precautions they should take; especially when we decide to buy their first mobile.
