Pocoyo, ambassador for Earth Hour

For the fifth consecutive year, WWF celebrates Earth Hour around the world to raise public awareness about the importance of fighting climate change. The World Wide Fund for Nature is the largest independent conservation organization in the world, and this year again counts as Ambassador of Earth Hour to Pocoyo.

In this edition, the organization intends to go beyond the symbolic act of turning off the lights for an hour, looking for a commitment throughout the year, with the aim of being many more and demonstrating what can be achieved together: send a clear message to governments to definitely support the climate agreement that the planet needs.

WWF Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest global action to combat climate change, making 128 countries in more than 4,500 cities around the world leave their most emblematic monuments in the dark (including the Eiffel Tower, the Buckingham Palace, the Empire State Building, the Alhambra in Granada, the Lost City, in Beijing, the Puerta de Alcalá, in Madrid, the Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro ...).

In Spain, more than 200 cities signed up for the campaign and turned off their monuments and buildings, six million people left their homes in the dark (10% of homes), and some 20,000 citizens took to the streets to celebrate La Hora del Planet in 2010.

It is not the first time that this initiative has the support of Pocoyo, with very good results thanks to the irresistible charm of the character. WWF hopes that Earth Hour 2011 will once again break all records of participation, to demonstrate the concern that society has for climate change, since it is the biggest environmental problem facing humanity and the future is at stake May we bequeath our children.

This year, Earth Hour will be held next Saturday, March 26, at 20:30, with the participation of Pocoyo that will surely turn off the light for an hour. In Madrid, the II Race for the Planet will take place in the Retiro Park, along with Pocoyo and WWF Panda, whom we see in the video.
