Food pyramid for children

We often talk in the blog about infant feeding. What are the most recommended foods, in what quantities and how often to offer them, but it is much more practical to visualize the information through a graph. Therefore, we wanted to show you a feeding pyramid for children.

It is specifically an interactive Mayan pyramid, without tip, made by Dr. González-Gross known as "The healthy lifestyle pyramid for children and teenagers". It has four faces in which we find: food, daily activities, daily food and hygiene and safety habits.

We will pay more attention to the Food pyramid, in which their distribution is based on the energy needs of children and adolescents, also indicating the frequency with which different food groups should be consumed.

It is divided into four floors:

  • First floor: cereals and derivatives: pasta, rice, bread, starches and plantain, with 6 daily rations in total.

  • Second floor: Fruits, vegetables and olive oil. Between 6 and 9 daily rations in total.

  • Third floor: the group of proteins and dairy. Meat, fish, egg, lean meats, milk and dairy products. Between 2-3 servings of the first and 3-4 servings of dairy products and derivatives.

  • Fourth floor: the most caloric and fatty foods. Butter, fatty foods, sweets, chocolates, between 2-4 servings weekly. Legumes and nuts, 2-3 weekly portions.

Daily food

Another pyramid made by the same team that deserves to be known is that of daily food, in which good eating habits are transmitted.

The importance of making five meals a day, having a full breakfast, drinking plenty of fluids, playing sports, resting, not smoking (take into account that it is also aimed at teenagers) and playing is emphasized.
