Criticism of the first 40 pages of “Pediatrics with common sense” (II)

Recently the new book by Dr. Eduard Estivill was published, written on this occasion in collaboration with Dr. Gonzalo Pin, whose title is "Pediatrics with common sense".

On the internet you can read the first 40 pages of the book and in Babies and more We wanted to comment, even knowing that in this way we advertise the book, because Dr. Estivill is a professional who is always accompanied by controversy and because the title of the book gives a lot of play.

Yesterday we already offered you a fairly exhaustive summary of what those pages can give of themselves and today we continue with a few more paragraphs, offering our vision about it (neither better, nor worse, different).

After each meal it is necessary to hold the baby in arms awake for about 10 minutes, to eliminate gas and to try to avoid some cramping. It will also help start digestion.

Well, they want to annoy the child, listen. After each shot it is recommended some minutillos (a pair or three, no more is needed), in an upright position, in case you have a burp. That he throws it, well, no, because he changes his position if we are / is more comfortable. If you have fallen asleep eating (I know that the authors of the book say that you can not sleep eating, but it is usually irremediable), because logic and common sense say that It doesn't make much sense to put it upright so it burps, basically because it's asleep.

And about digestion, I would say it starts the same whether you are ten minutes in your arms awake or if you are two hours rubbing in your mother's arms.

For colic, rather than having him awake or asleep, which is irrelevant, it is recommended that he spend a lot of time in his arms, in a backpack or in a foulard, avoiding horizontal positions (in the crib), except for the typical anti-colic position in which the baby He is upside down with our arm holding his whole body and especially avoiding being alone (in the crib).

After changing the diaper, we will place it in the crib, still awake, so that it learns to fall asleep alone.

We have tried, we have really tried all who are parents and most of us end up thinking that instead of a baby the universe decided to send us a green dog. Why the hell do not you sleep alone in the crib? Why do you cry so much? And we all come to the same conclusion: because we are trying to do something that most are not prepared for.

Then we return to normality and common sense. If most babies are not able to sleep alone in the crib it is common sense (drawer, it is also said) to realize that recommending parents to put their baby to sleep alone in a crib is absurd advice.

Women who decide to breastfeed do not have to vary your eating habits ... It is convenient that you avoid coffee and any other exciting drink, as well as taking medications and smoking.

Man, at this point in the movie even with those? It is not necessary for women who breastfeed to avoid coffee, only, if it can be, don't drink more than three cups a day, something that the majority doubt that it does, because what a mother wants is to be able to sleep, not to lie down and to realize that, for drinking coffee, she cannot fall asleep. If with exciting drinks it refers to Coca-Cola and the like, because with not taking more than a liter a day you have enough.

About the medications we have talked long and hard in Babies and more: You can take virtually all medications. I don't understand that this is written in a recent book, unless you want people not to chew (or you have no clue what you're talking about or interested in learning).

We have tobacco, if you are a nursing woman, you should avoid smoking, they say, what it does not say is what is recommended if you do not breastfeed, smoke? The really advisable thing is that nobody, absolutely nobody, smokes in the presence of the baby and, if it can be, that nobody who lives with the baby smokes either (father, mother, grandfather, uncle, brother, whoever).

The worst thing about having a mother who smokes is not the nicotine that passes through the milk (which is bad, of course), but the mother smokes, the baby is raised in an environment with tobacco smoke and increases the risk of respiratory infections . In fact, if a mother smokes, it is recommended with more emphasis than the breast before the bottle.

The nipple should be completely inside your mouth, and it should cover virtually the entire space of the halo.

Aura: (From lat. Aureŏla, golden). Glow, disk or luminous circle that usually appears behind the head of the sacred images.
Areola or areola: (From lat. Areŏla). Reddish brown circle around the chest nipple.

In any case, infant milk formulas are the alternative. As they will be later, when you have to start preparing to return to work and you are forced to stop breastfeeding your baby.

I do not understand that a woman is forced to stop breastfeeding for starting work. I understood, or so my common sense says, that women do not work 24 hours a day, but when they return to work they still have a schedule of about 8 hours a day.

This means that when they finish the day they can see their baby again, at which time, perhaps, if they want and the baby wants (most likely, yes), they can breastfeed. Or is it an indispensable condition to stop breastfeeding to start working? Does the mother force herself? Does anyone force you? I don't understand the phrase very well ...

And that's all my friends

A pity that we cannot read more pages of the book, because I have really enjoyed reading it and talking about it (mental note: never again say that you will not read Dr. Estivill's new book). I'll be waiting your comments about it.
