This week the National Day of Epilepsy has been celebrated, on May 24, and on that occasion we have known a campaign to publicize the disease. It is part of it the video "Knowing epilepsy", with which children can learn about epilepsy, just like us, the elders.
And in spite of the fact that in Spain, epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases, there is a great lack of knowledge that generates confusion and discrimination to those who suffer it.
The Epilepsy Group of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), the Spanish Federation of Epilepsy (FEDE), the Spanish Foundation of Neurological Diseases (FEEN) with the support of UCB Pharma, have developed the campaign "Knowing Epilepsy Makes Us the Same", an educational and dissemination and social integration program on epilepsy in the school setting.
The campaign, of which this video is part, seeks to promote greater understanding and social integration of those who live with epilepsy through an educational program in Spain. In summary, the campaign has a triple objective:
- Promote a greater understanding and social integration of those who live with this pathology.
- Contribute to eliminate the erroneous myths that surround it in the school environment.
- Offer teachers and parents rigorous scientific information on how to proceed in the case of witnessing an epileptic crisis.
The campaign has been running for a few years, and this edition has been developed among students and teachers of more than 800 Spanish courses, with Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura at the head of participation.
The video "Knowing epilepsy makes us equal" brings us closer to this disease, offering valuable information for both our children and ourselves. The highly recommended images focus on describing the types of epileptic seizures and how to act against them.
