'Today is dark tomorrow will be black': a song to raise awareness against bullying

What do adolescents do when they witness episodes of bullying in their nearest school or environment? Do they shut up? Do they become spectators? Do they leave the stage to avoid problems? Any of the options may be the most common, but do you know what? there are also brave young people who 'stand up' and are able to 'look into the eyes' of the aggressors without looking away and without letting fear take hold of them.

There are boys and girls who report bullying, and there are also those who embark on creative or volunteer projects to end these situations. It is in them that we should put our attention, and show our support and approval, because in the behavior they are capable of manifesting lies hope.

Four cyber correspondents have launched the topic 'Today is dark tomorrow will be black', and have done so to raise awareness about the problem of bullying among minors (in general), and especially to make us see that the suicides of children caused by school violence are not to be taken as a joke, nor are they news to forget when we turn off the television.

Do you remember when we talked about Amanda Todd? Well, even less time ago the suicide of Dutchman Tim Ribberink shocked his country, and made my heart tremble.

Cyber correspondents is a digital medium developed only by young people under 18 years of age throughout Spain that promotes the Children's Platform from one of its programs to promote and make visible youth participation in society.

This is the story of four students of the IES Alejandría de Tordesillas (Valladolid) who have released a song with the aim of raising awareness of others and other young people against harassment

Its title is "Today is dark tomorrow will be black" ("Today is dark, tomorrow will be black"). María Pérez Díez is the composer and performer. Sergio Pérez Freire directed the shooting and Andrea Tola Laguna and Patricia Corral Matilla are the main actresses of the video clip, in which also intervened companions and companions of his institute.

In this social network, many boys and girls have confessed to having suffered harassment and share it to overcome it. María Pérez, the same composer of this song, comments: “The truth is that when creating the lyrics I had to remember things that were better forgotten”.

And although they live it very closely, he adds that “It was not easy to think about the lyrics since you have to capture what people suffer. If you do it wrong, it would be disrespectful. ”.

For Andrea, one of the actresses, embarking on this project was a quick decision: “It was not difficult for us to agree since bullying seems to be an issue to be discussed”. And is that this group of young people bet to make visible and dialogue to fight it: "Perhaps it is thought that it is better to ignore it so that it decreases, but it should not be done that way."

I have read other very mature statements of Maria (the songwriter of the subject), these are: you just have to concentrate and let your hand write and give the notes, when you want to realize, the song is finished, and you have it in your head as if you knew it forever, and you really feel something strange when you touch it and mentally dedicate it to all those people who are suffering, you feel like you're doing something right, like if when you were in that situation you would have needed a song like that.

Ángel Hernández (director of the Children's Platform) said after knowing Tim's death, that 'it is necessary to articulate measures and take into account the proposals of many boys and girls who are sensitized to this issue and who can support others so that situations like this don't repeat itself. '

Young people like María, Andrea, Sergio and Patricia, They deserve all our respect and our support. I feel very proud of them, and I am happy to be able to tell their initiative in Peques y Más.
