Short story contest for children of the Lázaro Galdiano Foundation: work of art seeks history

I loved the proposal of short story contest for children of the Lázaro Galdiano Foundation from Madrid. Is about build a story using some of the works of art that can be found in the Foundation. And on that idea they have prepared a fantastic pdf document (linked at the end of the article) in which you can see some of the characters, places and objects chosen and with which you have to make a story. And that is the goal, to rewrite a new adventure starring a character, with an object and in a place. All can be found in the Foundation and allow the child to know extraordinary works of art while they develop ideas as if it were a Cluedo.

And it is that on the occasion of Book Day, the Lázaro Galdiano Museum launches its first short story contest for children in two categories: from 8 to 10 and from 11 to 13 years old. To participate I recommend reviewing the documentation indicated in the links at the end of the article. The challenge is to write a short story in which the extension does not exceed a folio on both sides typed.

The work will be sent by email ([email protected]), and that is appreciated because in the digital era sending paper is very bland, boring and not very modern. And no, I don't like Facebook to do these contests either. They have to send between April 23 and May 6, 2013 indicating all the identifying data.

The winners will be announced on May 18, International Museum Day, and the winners will receive a batch of products from the Foundation store.

At home we have already set to homework. We really liked the proposal, we know the Foundation and part of the enormous work that exists in the old home of Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid, at the crossroads of Serrano and María de Molina streets. The fun and imagination of children is assured because although the portraits, places and objects have a classic and ancient flavor sure child creativity that generates new and fantastic stories for them.

I hope that many of the children of the reading parents of Peques and Más are encouraged to participate. These types of initiatives are very interesting to develop children's creativity, get them out of school routine, bring them to works of great interest and for parents it is a challenge to organize the logistics of preparing the story, writing it to the dictation of the children, sending it and maintaining the emotion while the jury decides. We need many more initiatives like this and, for the organizers, it begins to be necessary think of new ways to reward kids, for example, publication of the work in digital format or invite the winners to present their works to the participants.
