The evolution of the desk is the video that can be seen below and that presents what is the impact that technology has on our lives over time. Especially those of the parents who grew up going to the computer section from The English Court in the 80s to get to know the IBM, the ZX81, the Spectrum of rubber keys, the Amstrad and the Commodore. In my parents' house I had a similar, although much smaller, desk in which I put the Spectrum, a black and white television, the radio cassette to play the musicassette tapes, the AZ that were huge filing cabinets to keep notes, the calculator, the one at my school was the HP28S, a boat to put pencils and pens, some clipping stuck on the wall and a chair with swivel wheels to make it easier for me to move. Sometimes I played and most studied for hours while the discs, in LP format, at turntable, who had to get up to change my face.
Now all these things can be carried on a computer with an Internet connection or on a mobile or tablet full, as you can see in the video, applications: games, study, notes, videos, various content, encyclopedias, music, etc. Everything fits on any of these devices which have also removed artifacts such as the printer or fax. Evolution of the desk is an initiative of Harvard Innovation Lab and it is a little scary because many things have been lost along the way, many ways of doing and much romanticism that our children will not know and will not believe it even if we tell them.
Now the question is not: how has your desktop changed? Because it sure is similar to what you see, but How will it change our children?
In my opinion I bet on devices that can be carried, with permanent connection, and with a tablet that allows you to see things a little bigger. And a lot hand gesture to be able to interact with the devices. And study / work anywhere, there is little to do in the car that circulates alone.
