In Valencia, minors will testify in a protected environment during legal proceedings

The Deanship of the Judges of Valencia has launched an initiative for minors to declare in legal proceedings, can do it through a specialist. The protocol responds to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against sexual exploitation and abuse.

Thus, children and adolescents involved in these processes will not face the tensions of a trial, and will remain in a protected environment. This minimizes the impact of double victimization when they have suffered some form of abuse.

The dean judge, Mr. Pedro Viguer, explained to Cadena Ser that the main objective is to avoid having to relive situations such as sexual abuse, when faced with an oral hearing, or statements at the headquarters of the courts.

The institution responsible for the initiative has coordinated with all the parties involved in order to start the service, which will be provided in a special unit of the City of Justice of Valencia. This room meets the conditions to soften the impact of judgment on children, and then the recording will be included in the oral view.
