Children's drowning they are a major cause of deaths in the world and to raise awareness of that danger the American photographer Seth Casteel has created "Underwater babies", a beautiful photographic series of babies under water.
It is surprising how babies can be so calm underwater thanks to the apnea reflex that they retain during the first months and which consists in closing the glottis (they do not swallow water or have a feeling of choking). It is what makes these images adorable, but we must not forget that children must always be guarded and accompanied.
Of course, whether or not they have that reflection, a few seconds are enough for them to drown, if they swallow water at one time a tragedy can happen, so we must not lose sight of them. And this is both in the sea or the pool, as in the bathtub or where there is water nearby.
More than 750 babies experienced their first water dives to develop this series and finally 70 images are part of a book. I think it's amazing that some great photos come out, I imagine that there will be, apart from the photographer's expertise, a good team behind to take the portraits in that aquatic environment.
It is not the first time that the photographer faces this type of images, since he is known for having produced another series of images underwater, but on that occasion with dogs as protagonists.
Anyway, we stay with babies and those special faces under water, with immensely open eyes and perhaps remembering their stage immersed in amniotic fluid ... And if the adorable photographs of "Underwater babies" serve to raise awareness about the danger of child drowningWell, better than better.
