Starting today, newborns will be able to enroll directly in the hospital (but not all)

We had already announced it in June and the day has finally arrived. As of today, October 15, Newborns may enroll directly in the hospital for the convenience of parents, avoiding having to do so in the Civil Registry. But beware it cannot be done in all hospitals.

In a first stage, as a pilot test, this facility is implemented only in 24 hospitals in Spain, one for each Autonomous Community, except in Madrid, where it will work in seven centers. We list you all below.

How will the registration be?

Much more comfortable than until now, sure, that the parents spend the first days of life of the baby doing paperwork.

The doctors will be responsible for identifying the baby and certifying their maternal affiliation (they already do this through a paper that is usually yellow and is known as a medical part of the delivery). Then, the parents, together with the doctors who have attended the birth, will sign the official declaration form that will be incorporated into the previous one.

Each health center will send all this documentation to the Civil Registry within 72 hours from birth, and this will issue a literal birth certificate which will be sent to parents (preferably electronically.

Hospitals where the newborn can be enrolled (first phase)

In Madrid:

  • San Carlos Clinic
  • Jiménez Díaz Foundation
  • Infanta Leonor
  • University of Alcorcón
  • Iron Gate of Majadahonda
  • University of Fuenlabrada
  • Torrejón Hospital

In the rest of the communities:

  • Valladolid Clinic
  • Pontevedra hospital complex
  • Gutiérrez Ortega de Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real)
  • Marquis of Valdecilla de Santander
  • Terrassa Hospital
  • University of Alava
  • Juan Ramón Jiménez de Huelva
  • Navarra Hospital Complex
  • San Pedro de Logroño

  • Northwestern Regional Hospital of Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia)
  • Regional Hospital of Inca (Balearic Islands)

  • Lozano Blesa Hospital of Zaragoza

Once proven its effectiveness and that everything is going as expected, the registration of newborns in the hospital will be extended to the rest of the public maternity hospitals before the end of the year.

Great news for new parents who from today they will have more time to be with their babies instead of doing paperwork.
