Pope Francis encouraged mothers to "breastfeed normally" in the Sistine Chapel

It shouldn't be news, it's true. But unfortunately there are still those who see breastfeeding in pubic as an offense, a provocation, an act that should only be done in private. Therefore, it is news when a relevant personality such as Pope, beyond whether we are Christians or not, encourages mothers to "breastfeed normally" their babies.

It happened on Sunday, during the baptism of 28 babies in the Sistine Chapel. When some babies began to cry, he joked announcing that “the concert has begun.” And he continued: “Well, you, moms, give them to breastfeed without fear, naturally, like our Madam breast-fed Jesus. ”

Crying does not bother

Before the crying of the children, far from being annoying or asking the mothers to calm their babies, with the closeness that characterizes it, he said:

"It's because the children are in a place they don't know, maybe they got up earlier than usual. One starts and then the others follow," he continued.

"And since the ceremony is a bit long, maybe someone cries out of hunger. If so, I tell you, mothers, to breastfeed without fear, with all normalcy. Like Mary was breastfeeding Jesus."

He proved to be understanding with the little ones and to be attentive to their needs, leaving aside the protocol. Not to bother them too many offered a short homily and then pronounced the name of each child while imparting the sacrament.

On the other hand, it is not the first time that the pontiff speaks with total naturalness of breastfeeding. Three years ago, also during a baptism in the Sistine Chapel he invited mothers to breastfeed their babies. He told them: "If they are hungry, feed them, without thinking twice, because they are the most important here."

Those who have visited the Sistine Chapel will know that among the rules to visit it, it is mandatory to enter with the shoulders and legs covered. So that the Pope allows and encourages mothers to discover their breast to offer it to their babies, deserves recognition.

The Pope often gives us news related to babies and parenting. The funny thing is that it is not usual for a Pope to talk about it, although it should be, and without entering into whether or not we agree with what he professes, it is important that contribute to normalize breastfeeding from an area that is usually very hermetic in what issues.
