Why doesn't my baby like the bathroom?

Many babies wait for bath time with emotion, it is a time when they relax and serve as a prelude to sleep. But, What happens if my baby does not like bathing? What can be the cause? These are some questions we should ask ourselves if our baby does not enjoy this daily act.

Luckily, it may only be a matter of days and soon the baby will see the moment of bathing as another day to day. You may be afraid to feel in the bathtub at the beginning or be startled for some reason. Therefore, we must always try to feel safe. These are some Questions to ask me if my baby resists bathing.

  • How much water do I put in the bathtub? If there is little (or too much) water, the baby may feel insecure or be cold. Therefore, especially in winter, we must ensure that warm water covers more or less to the chest (we hold it).

  • Is it cold or hot? Not only does the amount of water matter, but also its temperature. Ideally, it is about 35 degrees (in warmer winter, as well as for newborns: about 37-38 degrees). Check the water temperature before putting the baby in. We also have to take care of the temperature of the bathroom, and heat the room before starting the bath in winter. Newborns are more sensitive and need an ambient temperature between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.

  • Do you feel insecure? In a large bathtub, the baby may feel "lost", insecure, especially the little ones. That is why it is a good option to use small bathtubs. In addition, the baby must feel well attached: place the forearm behind his back and the hand holding the head. Do not startle it with powerful water jets or rub it hard, the child must be handled gently and firmly.

  • Do you feel lonely? A good idea for babies who cry in the bathroom is to bathe with them or put them in the bathtub with a little brother when they grow up. In the case that it is the mother or the father who bathe with the baby, it is better for another adult to be prepared to help take the child out of the bathtub, with everything necessary to dry it and dress it.

  • Are you sleepy or tired? It may not be the best time for bathing. When they want to sleep (or are hungry) it is not the most suitable bath time. Better wait for another time when your needs are covered. Maybe changing the bath time in the morning or mid-afternoon, if possible, the baby will enjoy it more.

  • Can i entertain it? If the baby gets bored, the feeling of insecurity, fear increases ... So, do not hesitate to talk to him, sing to him, play his favorite music or use a few bath toys to make the moment more entertaining.

  • Am i nervous? There is nothing worse than nervous or reluctant parents to convey these feelings to the baby. Maybe we need help for the bathroom, maybe better not to do it just one or maybe it's a matter of looking for a better time of day for the bathroom.
