Working as a "mother of the day" will be a reality in Catalonia

The care debate has always been very present in Catalan and Spanish society because of which not only the father and the mother are already working, but in many cases it is practically mandatory that they do so. if they want to make ends meet (It is no longer just a matter of wanting to work, but often even if you prefer to leave a job to take care of your child, you cannot).

In these cases, the care of babies and children must fall for a few hours in third parties, which can be both grandparents or a family member, as professionals in centers such as nursery schools. Between these two alternatives there are those we know as "kangaroos", which in many families are a great solution because grandparents may not want or be able to take care of the grandson, and because he is a single person in the care of a baby, who receives great personalized attention.

The problem is that the salary is high for what a family can get to pay, and that is why for some time it has struggled to regularize a similar figure, but with a lower cost for families, in the form of "mother of day". A woman (or man in some cases) who takes care of several children, at home, so that the ratio is lower than in a nursery school, but as I say, with a lower expense. As well, Catalonia has thought that it is a feasible solution and will soon regularize this figure.

There are already almost 200 "mothers by day"

As we read in 20 minutes, in 2012 there were 11 mothers by day throughout Catalonia, while today there are almost 200. For them, the Government has put in process the decree that will regulate their functions, as well as the characteristics of the home in which they take care of and take care of the children.

As commented, a mother by day has to develop her role in an apartment of at least 70 square meters and two rooms, in a space that must be able to ensure that each child has a minimum of three square meters at his disposal. In addition, you will have to have adequate heating, lighting and ventilation, as well as being accessible and safe for children.

Four children maximum

Regarding the ratio, it will be established that a "mother of day" can take care of up to four children under three. Will have to have education training and as a food handler, and will work as a freelancer, signing a private contract with parents. Likewise, she will be required to submit a draft report so that it can be evaluated by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family.

This figure has existed for several years in several European countries, and in Spain it had only been regularized to date Navarra. Now Catalonia joins this change that will be very positive, especially in municipalities with few inhabitants that do not have a nursery school, for example, or where parents want to use more personalized care, as it is a very low ratio compared to other alternatives.

I find it beautiful, practical and useful. Of course, fathers and mothers would like to be able to take care of them for their children in the first years of their lives. The problem is that for that, we would have to complain a lot more, making much more noise, and demonstrating to society and governments that taking care of their children by working both is exhausting. That is very hard, come on, and that there are couples who don't lift their heads because they would like to reach everything and it is practically impossible.

Longer casualties and promoting reductions in working hours without affecting the salary would be very logical measures so that parents could take care of our children as many of us want, and with enough places in quality nursery schools for those who consider it a better option.

If we add to this the "mothers or fathers of the day", we add an intermediate resource that can also be useful and reliable for many families, to achieve a third adult reference that brings love, time and dedication in a more familiar and homely environment, with three "little brothers" with whom to grow and play in confidence.
