The time of the dogs: a hospital in Madrid allows children to receive the visit of their pets

It is very important for children to connect with their dogs, which is why we think the initiative of the Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital in Madrid was great when launching a pioneering program so that Smaller patients can enjoy the company of their dogs.

With this idea, the center intends to humanize and make the income of children between 12 months and 15 years of age who are more bearable. They can receive the visit of their pets every Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm.

The healing power of pets

The idea is included in the Health Care Humanization Plan that has been promoted by the Ministry of the Community of Madrid so that children who remain admitted feel more "at home" having to be temporarily away from their usual environment.

The condition they place is that the dog must be taken to the hospital by the child's parents or caregivers, and must be vaccinated, previously brushed and anticipate that you have made your needs before entering. Nor can all races enter; races that are considered potentially "dangerous" (according to Royal Decree 287/2002) are excluded from the plan.

Having dogs is beneficial for the little ones, both from the point of view of their health (they have less risk of developing asthma, among other things), but also from the emotional point of view.

Many children establish a very special relationship with their dogs, becoming friends, companions of adventures and games, and stop seeing them because they are admitted affects their mood. On the other hand, receiving your visit, at least for one hour a week, is an important support for the little ones. They feel accompanied, it lifts their spirits, and that is very important to promote recovery.

Surely with your dogs, hospital hours go by faster.
