How to make your own twin breastfeeding cushion: step by step tutorial

When you get pregnant and you are new, it is inevitable to start looking for information and start an endless list of things that "supposedly" we will need by the time the baby comes home. Later some of them will remain unused but others will become so essential that we cannot live without them.

One of the most beloved objects for all moms is the breastfeeding cushion, very useful already in pregnancy to be able to sleep comfortably aligning the hips and having a foothold for our tripita. Also later it will become the perfect tool to feed our little one. But ... what if our pregnancy is twin? Do we buy two nursing pads? Discarded, they take up a lot of space. Is it possible to feed two babies at the same time? Of course! That's why we are here, to enlighten you with this Step by step tutorial to make a twin breastfeeding cushion.

When I gave birth to my twins, I was clear that I wanted to breastfeed them at the same time, otherwise I would spend the whole day feeding them and not being able to spend a minute with my oldest son or simply pamper the three and play with them. Already during pregnancy I began to look for information and found different positions and recommendations with images where I saw the famous twin cushion so I went out to the street ready to buy it.

After touring the typical stores with maternity products I did not find it. The next step was to search in an ecommerce and bingo! There it was but when I saw the price ... 150 euros! The first thing I thought was, what if I spend that money and in the end I can't establish breastfeeding? It would be a very bad investment ... So I thought of a plan B, do it myself! I have to publicly acknowledge that I have a very handy mom and all the credit goes to her, so in addition to the steps I tell you below, it is worth having a good seamstress nearby.

We started with the step-by-step tutorial to get a cushion for about 30 euros that personally saved my breastfeeding and allowed me to have more quality time to devote to my little ones. It's worth a try, isn't it?

  1. Searching the internet I found a fabulous scheme with the exact measurements in Milk Tips to make the cushion so the first step is to print this template and get closer to your nearest mattress to ask them to cut a foam just like the drawing. You will find three types: soft, hard and intermediate. In my case I have chosen the intermediate that allows the baby not to sink, as in the usual breastfeeding cushions since here we need more consistency when having to put two little ones, but it is also not very hard for them to be comfortable. Approximate foam price: 20 euros.

  1. The next step is choose the fabric of your cushion. For that I went to a store of scraps, of the many that exist, and chose the one that can be seen in the photo. I recommend you buy a soft fabric, preferably cotton, since the little ones will be in contact with him for a long time and the idea is that they do not allergy or anything like that. Approximate price: 8 euros

  2. Make pattern. What will we need? Manila paper or tissue paper and a marker. Once we have the foam cut to size we place it on the paper and mark with the marker thus removing our pattern. EYE! Do not mark 100% exact but one centimeter or centimeter and a half larger since we have to take into account the seams and if we adjust to the foam it will be small. Then repeat the operation because we will need two equal patterns (the top and bottom).

  3. Now we need to get the narrower part of the cushion. We will take out the pattern by measuring with a meter or ruler and leaving that centrimeter more equally.

  4. Once the fabric is cut we will sew the upper part and the narrow part of the cushion. We will sew the bottom part as well but it is where we will place the zipper. ADVICE: It is best to put a zipper as long as possible, if it is possible to cover the entire cushion so that it is easier to put on and take off the cover and wash it, which already warns you that it will stain frequently. Generally these long zippers are custom made. Approximate price: 2 euros.

  5. Optional decoration As you see in mine I put a flyer but you can decorate it to taste.

And that's it! By 30 euros You have a twin breastfeeding cushion that nothing has to envy the commercials and that will greatly facilitate breastfeeding, you will also see that the foam is quite comfortable and that makes you live unique moments especially when your little ones fall asleep to the chest hundreds of times while They give each other a hand. I assure you it will happen! Happy twin breastfeeding!
