From the cradle to the bed

The appropriate time to change the crib for a bed It is determined by the child's own development, but generally it is about two years or two and a half years.

What drives many parents to make the change is the feeling that the baby's crib is too small. Although the child fits, he no longer sleeps as comfortable as before, especially if he moves a lot at night he could hurt himself by hitting with the headboard or the sides.

Before you imagine, your child will have become a professional cradle climber, so it will be better to move him to a bed before he gets hurt.

You will have to keep in mind that, once released from the crib bars, your child can roam around the house. Therefore, take the necessary security measures so that accidents do not occur.

To make it easier, take the teddy bear, the matita or the toy with which he slept in the crib to bed. To get used to it, it is better that the change be gradual. For a few days I could take a nap or play in bed before having a definite time. It is not convenient that the transfer coincides with other major changes such as a move or the arrival of a little brother. The best way to know if your child is ready for change is to ask. Make it a participant in the decision and don't force it if you don't want to. If you have older siblings, you probably want to sleep in a bed before other children.

If you are going to buy a new bed, choose one that is functional and that suits your child's growth. You can also buy a small one that can be used more or less until 5 or 6 years. In addition, there are some safety tips to keep in mind. You will have to place a railing on one of the sides of the bed until there is no risk of falling, the corners should be rounded, and if the headboard has bars, they should be close enough so that the child's head does not fit between them. Make sure that the mattress is the right size for the bed, so that there are no spaces where a hand or foot can get stuck.
