Starting in August, large families of four, six or more children will benefit from a new tax deduction

Starting in August, large families with four, six or more children may request a extension of 600 euros per year for each child in the deductions for large family granted by the state, or an extension of 50 euros per month per child, if the aid is charged in advance.

This extension in the deduction is due to the entry into force of the General State Budgets, which have also brought other improvements to families such as the extension of parental leave from four to five weeks.

It does not affect all large families

This extension per child in the tax deduction does not affect the communities of the Basque Country and Navarra, which have their own tax system, nor all large families, as we can read in the BOE:

"With the objective of promoting birth, the amount of the limits established for deductions by large family is extended for each of the children who are part of the large family on the date of accrual of this Tax in which exceed the minimum number of children required so that said family has acquired the status of a large family of ordinary general or special category, as appropriate "

Remember that large families fall into two categories:

  • general: composed of three or more children (or two children if one of them has a disability, if there is a disability in one of the parents, or there is a widower with two children)

  • Special: composed of five or more children (or four children if certain economic requirements are met, or three children if one of them has a disability and certain economic requirements are met)

So, the measure would affect families with four children (those that exceed the minimum number of children established to be considered general category) and with six children or more (those that exceed the minimum number of children established to be considered special category).

In this way, the large families with four general category children They would receive an aid of 150 euros per month from the fourth child, if it is decided to collect in advance. If, on the contrary, it is decided to request this deduction when making the declaration of income, the amount would increase by 600 euros more per year, from 1,200 to 1,800 euros.

From the sixth child, the deduction for large family would amount to 250 euros per month, or if you choose to request the deduction when making the income statement, the amount would go from 2,400 to 3,000 euros.

The situation does not change for large families of three children, who will continue to deduct a maximum of 1,200 euros per year, and five children who will deduct a maximum of 2,400 euros.

The Spanish Federation of Large Families has applauded the measure, considering that it is "recognition of the social contribution made by large families" To our country.

Is this help retroactive?

No. The aid will not be charged between the months of January and August of this year, since the measure comes into effect from the publication in the BOE of the General State Budgets.

In theory, it was expected that as of July, large families that met the requirements could begin to benefit from this aid, but the change in government has delayed it by a month.

In any case, it is important to remember that if the help is requested in advance, it will be charged over a month, so it will be in September when the Tax Agency begins to pay such aid.
