The bilingual child

Nowadays it is common for children to hear their parents speak more than one language in many homes.

Some because of their origins and others because they want to instill their little one to learn a language naturally in the realm of everyday life.

It's known that young children can learn a language faster and easier that teenagers or adults, so it is not a bad idea to speak it at home because the more they listen and use a language, the faster they will learn it.

Although some specialists doubt that a child learns more than one language from so young, it is not proven that bilingualism cause language or learning disorders. Maybe once in a while a word will be crossed and said in another language, but those "failed acts" usually disappear before the age of five.

Even some studies show that the child who speaks two languages develops certain skills, such as selective attention, an ability to concentrate on important details and ignore confusing or distracting information.

On the other hand, from a personal and non-scientific point of view, I believe that what we can teach them with patience and affection will always have a positive reaction in our children.

If your husband and you speak different languages at home there are no reasons why your child cannot become a bilingual child perfectly.
