Literacy, new therapy to relieve and help with diseases

Through the reading of literary works, a child or an adult can be transported through time and space, leaving out any psychic or physical suffering. Through fantasy, the reader immerses himself in an imaginary world where he can be the protagonist and be absent for a period of time from the ailments of reality.

Starting from this base, a group of psychologists, doctors, journalists and professors, just coined a new term, literacy whose definition is as follows: "the use of reading and writing as an instrument to relieve or assist in the cure of diseases." Books can be, in addition to a suitable tool for the development of intellect and other related facets, a therapeutic element of great power in all ages.

The new therapy will be carried out with children and adults who are hospitalized and the effects and repercussions, whether direct or indirect, on the health of patients will be investigated. We all know that reading is tremendously beneficial, the use of literature as a therapeutic element is nothing more than a corroboration of the benefits offered by adequate reading. The truth is that we should all do a bit of literacy a day, it sure would benefit us greatly.
