Light foods for children?

We adults may get carried away by the promises of light products. That they do not gain weight, that low in calories, that they are healthier and a long etcetera, but with children we must be more careful.

Light food They are definitely manipulated foods to reduce their calorie content and are not a good alternative for children in full development stage with nutritional needs greater than ours.

If they take this type of products in an excessive way we can subtract essential nutrients and produce deficiencies in the feeding of our children.

To understand a little more. There are two types of vitamins essential for the body: water-soluble (B and C) and fat-soluble (A, E, D and K), which are found in fat.

In the processes to which the light products are subjected (such as dairy products) the fat is removed and with them the vitamins, which although usually added later by the manufacturer, is not the same.

Therefore, it is often recommended that children take whole dairy products, which contain the original vitamins.

Light drinks on the other hand contain artificial sweeteners or aspartame, one of the most used synthetic sweeteners that, although it is safe for children, it is recommended that it be used in balanced diets.

The key is to choose the food we give our children. Instead of a chocolate to snack even light, offer a fruit. Instead of a light soda, a natural juice.

If the child is a little chubby it is preferable to take natural foods in moderate quantities than light products with no nutritional value.
