In Vivo Fertilization

A new technique has been presented in Geneva to allow fertilization through assisted reproduction technology but in a way closer to nature, it is In Vivo Fertilization. Unlike in vitro fertilization, which was performed in a test tube, the In Vivo fertilization allows fertilization inside the uterus of the future mother, yes, inside a capsule.

In the search necessary to find solutions in the treatment of couples who have fertility problems, in the year 2000 the idea of trying to replace the cold test tube used in fertilization by a new permeable capsule placed in the inside the womb of the future mother. In these conditions ovules and sperm would merge resulting in the development of an embryo in much more natural conditions.

After the approach, the relevant tests were performed on mice and after checking the viability, the procedure was patented. Thanks to the new technologies the complicated processes to achieve the development of a special capsule and its subsequent implantation in the maternal uterus have been overcome. The capsule used in this new fertilization technique has a very small size, only 1 millimeter in diameter, but in addition, this capsule is perforated by hundreds of microscopic openings that allow communication between the environment of the uterus and the embryo, It is as if it were a ball-shaped strainer that holds a valuable treasure inside.

At the moment, the new technique is subject to the relevant clinical trials required by the scientific protocol, the first tests have provided for the moment very encouraging results regarding the different parameters that are subject to its functionality, tolerance of the organism to capsule, viability of the technique used for implantation, etc., the new technique will allow a better quality of embryos without a doubt.

This new solution is the result of the work of the prestigious Dr. Pascal Mock, specialized in reproductive medicine, the Spanish Martín Velasco, considered an expert in business and Professor Paul Devroey, of the MAP Center of Brussels Free.

We still have to wait for several clinical trials in other countries to compare results and guarantee 100% feasibility, if everything goes as expected, the new technique and the capsule will be found in the international market in 2008.
