Is autism not diagnosed properly in Spain?

In Babies and more we have tried to explain some of the characteristics of a disorder that affects some brain functions, it is autism. Statistics show that about four out of every thousand children, mostly boys, are affected.

Provided that a prompt detection of this problem can be carried out, appropriate action can be taken accordingly, but unfortunately most cases of autism are not detected. According to the child and youth psychiatrist at the Mútua de Terrassa hospital, this is a serious problem that affects the proper development of the child's life, for example, school failure will be much more noticeable, the relationship with his classmates and friends will be marked by Little or no socialization and their sentimental and professional life in the future will be limited.

A very worrying fact is that which emerges from the article published in La Vanguardia, for example in Catalonia, of a child population of about 900,000 students, according to statistics about 6,000 children would be affected by autism, however, the Department of Health of the Catalan Generalitat has only 160. It is necessary to apply new strategies that allow doctors to detect cases that go unnoticed, to know each of the diseases that include autism and some other ailments that are related to it, otherwise there is a risk of treating the child as a normal child and lead him to a fruitless and problematic future.

Unify medical performance in all provinces, since it varies and allows more or less cases to be detected, the example is in Catalonia. In this community, fewer cases are diagnosed than in the rest of Spain and it is not precisely because there are fewer autistic children, the explanation given to this fact is provided by Enric Álvarez, head of psychiatry at the Sant Pau hospital, explains that in Catalonia they are performed Psychological diagnoses based on psychoanalytics and indicates that this type of diagnosis has no use for autism.

Health administrations should take action on the matter in a more notorious and consensual way that allows a quick detection of autism and a better quality of life for children who suffer from it.
