Groningen Protocol, Euthanasia in Dutch babies suffering from spina bifida?

Apparently, in Holland there is the active practice of euthanasia in those babies born with spina bifidaThis is done when parents and doctor meet to assess the situation of the child, if the result, according to the specialist's criteria, is that the suffering of the baby is unbearable and the parents believe so, they can reach a fatal decision, the Euthanasia is performed, it is the result of the so-called Groningen Protocol.

This fact has been denounced by numerous specialists from many countries, also arouses criticism from some specialists of the country itself. In Holland they follow a very different criterion from other countries, according to Dutch doctors, a treatment has to result in an improvement, if there is no such improvement, it is useless to continue with it. In other countries hope is maintained and a treatment is applied if it exists even though the improvement cannot occur. The truth is that the so-called Groningen protocol is somewhat chilling, it is a protocol that lists the conditions to be able to use active euthanasia, continuous acute pain, continuously need care, have a poor quality of life or not be able to lead a life independently, are some of the characteristics contemplated by the protocol. It seems an aberrant protocol and we would indicate that inhuman, as the specialists who are against this practice say, it cannot be demonstrated that a life is unbearable for a baby.

Who decides what the value of a disabled baby's life is? We believe that a medical protocol should be accepted by the entire scientific and medical community, there are too many aspects to consider, it seems that Dutch specialists choose the path easier.
