Certain antibiotics used in obstetrics could be risky

During pregnancy, as well as in the search for pregnancy and lactation, it is best to avoid any type of medication. Two new studies show that antibiotics given during pregnancy are not harmless, and may even have serious risks.

Children born to women in a preterm birth (prior to the 37th week of gestation) or with early rupture of membranes that had been given the antibiotics erythromycin and the combined clavulanic acid-amoxicillin were followed for seven years. Avoid infections

At first there were no serious consequences derived from the use of antibiotics, however in the long term they have found that children who had been exposed to antibiotics because their mothers had a premature delivery had developed more cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

In the case of women who received both drugs, 35 babies had cerebral palsy, compared to 12 in the placebo group, almost 3% more.

Do not turn a deaf ear to such studies. This one in particular would question the use of certain drugs in obstetrics that are considered harmless when they are not.

Anyway, we must be cautious with this type of study because the possibility of infection in case of premature rupture of the bag could be greater than the possibility that the child suffered a disability. We will be ahead of new investigations
