New natural delivery room in Ourense

It is comforting that efforts to get less medicalized deliveries are on track. That money is invested in promoting natural childbirth is good news.

The CHOU (Complexo Hospitalario de Ourense) has opened new facilities to make labor a more intimate and relaxed moment and to minimize interventions.

In the 40-meter room located on the first floor of the center, the woman has a whirlpool with hydromassage, an automated bed where she can rest, be explored during the dilation phase and also give birth if desired, a team of maternal fetal monitoring, a thermal cradle and a delivery chair for those who want to give birth in an upright position.

The only photo I have found of the room is the one taken on the occasion of the visit of the Minister of Health. It looks very good and if I see no bad, there are even candles!

Of course, I would love to have had a birth under these conditions and I am sure that many ourensen mothers will be happy to use this room. There are also dilation bathtubs in the hospital of O Salnés and Cee, but it is not usual in large hospitals.

Improve the comfort of women, make her feel relaxed, safe, in a family environment, with freedom of movement and in the company of whom she chooses directly influences the good development of childbirth and reduce the number of caesarean sections. Hopefully rooms like this will start working in all hospitals.
