Too many unhealthy food ads in children's programming

Than poor diet and obesity They are two of the most pressing problems in childhood is a proven reality. It also seems clear that the "guilty" are varied, starting with family customs.

But television, advertising and the messages that reach our children continuously also have to do with some attitudes and habits. That is why I believe that the publicity broadcast should be taken care of in children's television schedules, and that it does not happen that four out of ten ads issued in children's programs are about unhealthy foods.

According to a study on the advertising of food in children's programs, carried out by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), a child sees throughout the day more than 6 minutes of advertising of food products, that is, 22 ads of this type .

And among them stand out foods with excessive contribution of saturated fats, sugar and sa, not too recommended to include in a children's diet: pastry, sugary yogurts, cocoa products ...

The organization has sent the results of this study to the Vice Presidency of the Government and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, requesting that the code elaborated by “Consumers International” be incorporated into Spanish legislation in collaboration with the World Health Organization.

Its objectives are:

prohibit the issuance of unhealthy food advertisements between 6.00 in the morning and 9.00 at night; not promote unhealthy foods using new media or in schools; not include gifts, toys, or collectibles that encourage children to eat unhealthy foods; and not allow the use of famous people, cartoons or contests in the marketing of unhealthy foods.

Some desirable goals, but for those who undoubtedly society is not yet prepared and for those who have a long way to go. But it's okay to take steps.
