Premature controlled in their own homes by pediatricians

A more humanized care of premature babies is essential to promote their recovery. Pediatricians have realized that once they are stabilized from a medical point of view it is preferable that they remain in a cozy environment with mom and dad than in the hospital.

Starting from the premise that “nowhere better than at home”, the pediatric service of the Maternal and Child Hospital of Malaga is the first center in Spain that has launched a home care system for premature babies that seems to me all a success.

The home hospitalization system consists of a pediatrician and two nurses who are responsible for visiting premature children in their own homes and answering phone calls from parents about any circumstance that may arise.

The concerns of parents who encounter a premature baby at home are innumerable, so it is very valuable to know that there is always a professional to go to, and even better for the professional to go to our own home.

In addition, professionals train parents in the care they should provide to premature babies, making them feel more secure and confident when caring for the child.

On the other hand, when professionals go to the houses, unnecessary hospitalizations are avoided and the stress caused by the transfer of a house from home to the hospital is avoided.

Fortunately, more and more people think about the well-being of premature babies. Not long ago we commented that the Hospital La Fe of Valencia had advanced in 10 days the discharge to premature babies to favor the emotional bond with their parents.

It is clear that a premature baby recovers better in a family environment, so the option of home health care seems the most appropriate to ensure a cozy environment and personalized attention.
