Beware of the consumption of panga and perch

Children eat fish is important, as it offers high quality protein, minerals and good fats. A cheap and simple option to prepare which is used more and more frequently is factory fish, which are cheap and have a spineless presentation. However you have to have watch out for the panga and the perch, we are alerted from the Organization of Consumers and Users.

Parents are very concerned about giving the best possible food to our children and we try, whether they always eat at home or stay in school to eat, choosing the most nutritious foods is an issue we always have in mind.

But not only must be aware of nutritional quality, but also contaminants such as pesticides and heavy metals that may be present in these foods and that are harmful to health, at least in excess.

These fish we are talking about are farmed in fish farms on the Mekong River and on Lake Victoria. They arrive in ready-to-eat steaks and both at home and in school canteens are presented for their affordable price and their presentation of simple preparation. But they are not sole or mere, they are other fish.

Their hatcheries have been exposed in programs such as the famous "Darwin's Nightmare" and I, after watching that program I have not consumed them again.

We are now alerted from the Organization of Consumers and Users that high doses of mercury have been detected in the samples analyzed, which, although they cannot be considered an immediate health risk, if it is appropriate to reduce their consumption to one day at week as much, and also counting on its effect would add to the other fish that also show high figures of this metal, such as the emperor and tuna.

Therefore we must put care in the consumption of panga and perch, reducing its consumption and also controlling its inclusion in the school menu.
