The best children's films: 'Ratatouille'

We come back to the Pixar universe with another of his great films, in this case 'Ratatouille', starring a very special character. A rat with a highly developed smell and taste that dreams of becoming a chef.

With this nice paradox and set in the kitchen, we find a vibrant, fun and ideal movie to watch with our children. Again Pixar delights us with an impeccable technical invoice and an exciting story, a story told with exquisiteness. As much as the one you own Remy, the protagonist rat.

The film was directed in 2007 by Brad Bird (the same as 'The Incredibles') and again meant absolute success in the animation film. He not only conquered the box office and many children, but also the most important awards, since he won several Oscar nominations and winning the best film of animation (in addition to the Golden Globe and other awards).

What counts

Curiously, the film's title evokes one of the most common dishes in French cuisine. And it is that the tape is set precisely in France, where its tradition for good cuisine is internationally known.

In 'Ratatouille' we meet Remy a very particular nice rat with a exquisite smell and taste which does not fit precisely in the colony of rats in which he lives. His aspirations, despite being a rat that connotes a negative for a kitchen (and the opposition of his family), is precisely to become a great chef.

Much of his devotion comes from the famous chef Auguste Gusteau, a star of the stove he sees on television and whose book is his guide. Fate takes Remy through the Parisian sewers to Gusteau's restaurant.

Despite the constant danger that a rat lurks around the kitchen of a prestigious restaurant, his ambition and faith lead him to pursue his dream at all costs. Meeting with the help of Linguine, a young duck with whom he will form a good team and whose symbiosis will lead them, through an exciting adventure and relationship, to both reach their goals.

We like it because ...

It makes us dream again of the importance of aspirations. Nothing less imaginable than a sewer rat who wants to be a chef and meet the perseverance, good faith and many doses of humor and adventures to achieve it. In 'Ratatouille' we will find moments of laughter, melancholy, parody, emotion and adventure, love and friendship ...

The film has wonderful scenes, tremendously funny and with a narration that does not decay at any time. A song to the imagination with the unmistakable Pixar seal.

Again a great technical work, with some sets, gestures and movements delicious and visually exquisite. But also, and more importantly, a brilliant job in the character design. All have a great depth, something that is not usual in traditional animation cinema (which usually focuses on the protagonist). The secondary, the villain on duty ... all are treated with care and that is transmitted in history.

Values transmitted by 'Ratatouille'

Pixar has cooked, if you allow me the culinary simile, with many tasty ingredients to achieve a movie full of values and teachings For children. In fact it is among the films of the factory most aimed at children (although the elderly enjoy and much too).

This is a story as a fable about the chase of dreams and happiness. All this through friendship, the desire for improvement and effort. And always maintaining the respect of others.

In 'Ratatouille' we find a song the lack of prejudices (a rat turned into a chef?) And how with effort and respect can work and family be counted to develop talent and meet goals. We found a demonstration of the necessary family cohesion and the necessary solidarity (Splendidly represented by the relationship between Remy and the young Linguini).

Recommended from 3 years

As I say, it is a Pixar movie more aimed at children. For its rhythm, for the doses of adventure and having some characters, especially Remy, captivating any child from three years can enjoy a lot of 'Ratatouille'. In addition, it will arouse great interest in the kitchen and learning about the ingredients, which will attract a lot of attention.

A film also recommended to watch with the family, which with support and reinforcement, is ideal for children to learn about overcoming and cooperation. Being a relatively recent film and with remarkable success it is easy to find it in domestic format.
