'The Blue Elephant' is an adventure movie that conveys positive values

About two years ago we saw by chance a Thai movie (it sounds very unusual as we are to make much of the cinema we see is American, with some European intrusions) called "The Blue Elephant".

I have to say that it captivated us from the beginning, although the second third of the film can be a bit boring for those who are accustomed to action movies. But I can firmly affirm that it is worth it, in fact as it was given to us on DVD we have seen it again a few more times.

This film that lasts 79 minutes and is directed by Kompin Kemgumnird, is presented full of adventures, tenderness, love and companionship The protagonist is Khan Kluay He goes from being a baby under the care of his mother, to becoming the "Royal Elephant" of the newly proclaimed King of the Kingdom of Siam.

You will know that what Siam was today is Thailand, and this name refers to the Thai people (whose meaning is 'free'). It seems that it is the only nation in South Asia that never lost its freedom, and in fact this film that I am talking about today tells some facts (as I have read they are based on a legend) that refer precisely to the desire to free themselves from the domain from Burma.

But let's go back to Kan Kluay: it's a brave elephant It demonstrates great courage and a sense of family belonging. As a child, he embarks on an adventure in search of his father (without knowing that he ran a tragic fate), moving away from his mother, who takes many years to see again.

On his way he crosses the prince of Siam who is held by the king of Burma, and with whom he establishes a fleeting friendship. Also with Kon Shuay who will become an inseparable companion and will take him to the house of the elephant keeper who after a while will be in charge of training them to serve Siam's troops in their struggle for independence.

For me one of the most intense moments of the film occurs when during the tournament the elephants compete to be worthy of becoming a Royal Elephant, Kan Kluay meets the now king of Siam. The latter announces: 'This elephant as our people is small in size, but big in heart: it has fought against forces that surpassed it, not for greed or power, but to protect a loved one, we must all follow his example ... people mine, today I found my Royal Elephant '

However, when Kan has recovered his mother and knows that his father died in battle, he must make a decision, return to the peace of the home, or accompany his people and return the dignity to his family.

It is a film that clearly reflects very positive values such as courage, persistence in achieving what is desired, protection of the family and the defense of ideals.

In the outcome you can not miss the union of Kan and Kon, and return home to continue a life full of peace and prosperity. The little 'big' elephant is named protector of Siam and tells the legend that his descendants still live.

I have not forgotten Kan's faithful friend since he was a child, it is a messenger bird who calls himself 'Sergeant Jay', both remain together in good and bad times.
