A deaf two-year-old boy hears his mother's voice for the first time

A couple of years ago we were all amazed at the story of Jonathan, an eight-month-old boy who was born deaf and who had a cochlear implant, finally hearing.

Now we bring you the story of Cooper, two years old, who also had a cochlear implant, thanks to which he could hear his mother's voice for the first time.

If you are wondering what is that of the cochlear implant, just comment, in broad strokes, that it is a transducer that transforms acoustic signals (from the outside) into electrical signals, which are what stimulate the auditory nerve. Part of the implant is placed inside the skull and part outside it. When the sound becomes an electrical signal, it stimulates the child's nerve and the brain distinguishes the sounds that come from outside.

At first Cooper does not realize much of what is happening. Something has just been placed in his ear and he begins to perceive sounds, but he is missed to the point of taking everything away. When he finally has it on, it happens in the second 30 of the video, that the mother addresses the child with a "Hi, Cooper", to which the child responds with a lot of emotion. Then it is even indicated as wanting to explain what he is hearing.

Undoubtedly it is a very exciting moment, full of importance, especially for Cooper, who from the implant can make a life much richer in stimuli and with the possibility to learn to communicate with everyone around you, which is not little for a child who was born deaf.
