Kenna Claire, the girl who survived after being born with 266 grams of weight

In Babies and more We have explained several cases of babies who were born very premature and who have survived against all odds. Perhaps medicine has advanced so much that the weight and age limit is difficult to define. Perhaps it is true what our mothers and grandmothers say, that now the children born are different. Perhaps some children are so eager to live and fight that they get it despite all the adversities.

The last case I have known, because a few days ago he was discharged from hospital, is that of Kenna Claire Moore, a girl who born with a weight of 266 grams and that it was the size of a can of soda. In fact, Kenna is the fourth smallest baby in the world to survive.

Last Tuesday, July 10, she was discharged from the Hemby Presbyterian Hospital in North Carolina, USA. Kenna born at 25 weeks gestation, after five weeks of hypertension of the mother and after two weeks in which the girl had not grown anything.

At that time, in the expectation that everything would be worse, some doctor came to recommend that parents consider an abortion, however the mother did not want to give up yet "that was inconceivable", said. According to statistical data, the survival rate of 24-week-old babies is 60%. It is not much, but enough for some parents to decide to move on, surely.

At birth the girl, the bag and the placenta came out, all at once

The first indication that Kenna was destined to live was her birth. When was born the girl, the placenta and the bag came out, everything at once. Typically, the baby comes out and the placenta comes out a while later to allow time for the baby to start breathing on his own and to continue nourishing him while he stops beating. In Kenna's case, this did not happen because the placenta went out with her. The doctors had to quickly open the bag (the girl was still inside) so she could breathe.

Naturally, at birth so prematurely, the girl has gone through different problems. He has suffered hernias, the development of the blood vessels of his retinas has not been adequate and he has suffered necrotizing enterocolitis, a disease that leads to the death of intestinal tissue that can be fatal.

After six months of admission he went home

All this made Kenna have to go through your first six months of life in the intensive care unit of the hospital. Last Tuesday, when they were finally able to go home with the girl, weighing almost two kilos, they declared that they could not believe it.

Now, leaving high does not mean that she is a normal child and can live like any other baby. Kenna will have to use oxygen and in addition to being bottle fed, she has a tube whereby vitamins and medications are given.

Kenna's mother wanted to explain her case to serve as an example and support to all those parents who have a hard time. "You have to find something to hold on to and try to find the positive in everything", said.

Hopefully, little Kenna, a fighter and exemplary survivor, sees her rewarded effort and can soon live autonomously. He deserves it.
