Adriana Abenia: "Several times I have been indigestible to see a woman breastfeed her baby"

There is much talk about breastfeeding and much opinion. Sometimes you speak with knowledge of cause and think with common sense, and sometimes you speak without knowing, offering an opinion that ends up being unpleasant, as has happened with Adriana Abenia, who yesterday wanted to talk about prolonged breastfeeding.

There are many things that said on the net this model and diploma in Tourism (which is presented to the world as a presenter and actress) with respect to breastfeeding, being for me the most unfortunate or unpleasant part in which she confesses that on more than one occasion he has been indigestible to see a woman breastfeeding her baby.

You can read Abenia's opinion in full in The Free Voice. I do not know if this is really what he thinks or if he simply uses the technique of “it is good that they talk about you, even if it is for the worse”, because it is clear that this girl is a true unknown to many people and, as of today, For example, thousands of people will read your words thanks to the different blogs and social networks.

As I usually do on other occasions, I will cite the most prominent paragraphs of his speech and then I will answer his words.

No one denies its benefits (from breastfeeding), but I am still dismayed, with all my respect, for the image that my retinas recorded a few days ago in the middle of one of those dinners with friends who lengthen and in which you touch all the sticks. That of a mother breastfeeding her 4 year old son. Milk!

Well, "I'm still dismayed days later" and "with all my respects" don't seem to get too married in the same sentence. 4-year-old children breastfeeding for years that are seen and as all informed health agents know (I am a nurse), it is not negative or counterproductive, more to the contrary, can help maintain an adequate level of defenses in the child.

We know it well, we have been told to satiety, "the mother's milk is a great food for the churumbel," this food is enough to grow very quickly. But in a developed country, beyond the recommended six months, what is the point of alternating mortadella sandwich or classwork with sips of breast milk? Someone explain to me, please. So much milk carton has risen that comes to mind choose this option?

It is not an economic issue, or it usually is not, although it would be very good for the global economy for all children to be breastfed for several years. Ask it, Adriana, to the health managers of your autonomous community, or to those of the government.

Ask them why they insist so much on promoting breastfeeding as a main food until the year of life and why they insist so much on being given at least two years, even when they are already eating bologna sandwiches.

They may answer that they do it because they know that they get sick less, enter less in hospitals and, when they get sick, they get cured sooner. Less income, less diseases and shorter diseases equals significant savings in healthcare costs and lower parental expenses, missing work less.

If you ask about breastfeeding at age four, it is already a matter of every mother and child. We know that until six years the immune system can remain immature, so continuing to receive defenses from the mother is not all bad. Even when you no longer need defenses and this is a more usual matter, take a few sips, as you say, "it's home". Do you remember when you played pilla-pilla, and knowing that they were going to catch you, you invented that touching the nearest wall was home? Do you remember how good you felt knowing that they couldn't catch you there? Well, there are four-year-olds who occasionally want that.

The good (or the bad, go to know), is that then they grow and no longer need it, because they learn to create their own inner house, or because talking to someone about their problems or simply receiving a hug can also be “home” .

A separate case requires breastfeeding in the street, it has always seemed to me that the act itself requires some privacy. Nowadays it is not difficult to find qualified places where you can enjoy privacy, then there are the testers of numerous stores. And I say this because it will not be the first time (I admit that I am quite scrupulous) that my food has been indigestible by observing in front of me a woman taking out 'udders' to feed her baby with her fluids.

Separate case? This is not a separate case, this is what has been done throughout life for millennia: breastfeeding the baby when required. The case apart is people who believe that women who breastfeed have to hide from their peers, as if what they do was sin, as if it were strange, strange or illogical. Then you go and in a television program that is broadcast in the afternoon you go and take off "udders" and hey, that to others has to seem good or normal.

Vaticino, quite likely, that I will be one of those 'bad mothers' who point to the fashion of the bottle; and not for a matter of aesthetics, because in my case gravity is not a problem, you just have to observe me, but of clear denaturation or sense of civilization, as you look.

No woman, no bad mother. If anything, and if you don't inform yourself, you'll be one of those mothers who makes a decision thinking that she knows everything about breastfeeding without really knowing almost nothing about her. Yes I agree that fashion is the bottle. As I said before, tooooooda life, the usual, is breastfeeding. The strange, the strange, the fad now, is artificial milk. But I don't like to call it fashion either, I would prefer to call it a resource.

And hey, giving the bottle is not done to avoid the effect of gravity, because as it is well known to breastfeed does not cause the breast to fall, perhaps if you are too denatured, although civilized you don't seem so much to me anymore. A civilization that is moving towards a point where babies are denied the most logical food for their health and for their best development does not seem to me to move forward precisely.

Only we, the human beings, by taking the opposite to the world, drink milk of another species when breastfeeding ceases. We may not be as natural as we think then. Apparently it is doubtfully recommended. In the end, I chose to sign up for rice milk and almond milk. Soy, superbly publicized, turns out that it is not healthy for a young and healthy woman because of its estrogen content. And many breast cancers are estrogen sensitive.

Of course we are the only ones who drink milk from another species, to see where you find a dog milking a cow or a cat keeping the milk in containers where it can be stored.

It turns out that you drink milk from rice and almonds, that is not milk, of course, because it does not come from any mammal. You myself, to drink that I drink water, and if I eat almonds and rice, I'm sure it comes out cheaper (but you, I'm sure you have more money than me, do it as you prefer).

About estrogen and breast cancer, if you're so worried, just telling you that breastfeeding a baby reduces the risk of breast cancer. In fact, how many more breastfeeding years (imagine that when you have a child you would breastfeed for four years) the lower the risk.

To recap, now that I register in my mind the friends who have been raised at the tip of a nipple, the truth is that they are made a bull. But I don't want to be a cow. Each one that decides freely.

Okay, everyone who decides freely would be missing more, but please, don't call "cow" those who decide to breastfeed their children, because indirectly you don't let them choose freely. If you want to feed your children, when you have them, at the tip of a nipple, do it, although I am very afraid that you will have to give them adapted cow's milk (the one that you do not want to drink) or soy milk (that you do not want to drink either).

You can be calm because most likely your children are like bulls, but for your understanding I will use an analogy that a friend has already explained to you in her blog. There are many people, including you, who do not understand why after six months they continue to breastfeed babies, being able to give them artificial milk and then cow's milk. I guess what you don't understand is the same feeling a mother has without too many resources when he gives his son a t-shirt and he gives it back because it is not branded, or because it is imitation.

And I suppose it is the same as you feel when they give you a purse: Do you prefer one of Prada or one of Chinese imitation in which it says “Prada”? For practical purposes they both serve because they are both bags, but surely you would not want to carry an imitation bag. As well, We are many who prefer original milk for our children. If you can not, for whatever reason, then we will use the imitation, which also does its job, even if it is not the same.
