Summer is the time that involves the most risk for minors: do we know how to control accidents?

The The leading cause of infant mortality in Europe in children older than one year, are injuries. Many of which generate important sequelae (up to 25% of children and adolescents admitted by accidents suffer important consequences at the Central Nervous System level).

Experts believe that summer is the time that involves the most risk for minors. Sometimes it seems that with the repeated recommendations that parents receive, we want to tarnish the fun component that all the free time our children can enjoy.

But I think the message is 'foresee risk situations, so that your children get the most out of their vacations, without frights'.

Consequences of childhood accidents

Injuries caused by childhood accidents are disorders of psychomotor development, neurological problems due to spinal, musculoskeletal, cutaneous or psychological trauma.

It is important pay attention to the 2000 children who (for each deceased), enter emergency services or are cared for in health centers. Affected minors should have access after the accident, to an integrated neurological rehabilitation, which is adapted to their specific needs.

That is, the death of a child is an irreparable tragedy, but it is not the only disastrous and unexpected consequence that can occur, we have to be aware of this.

And although I don't think I have to explain why summer involves more risk, it is clear that children have more free time (and are entitled to it, obviously), sports are practiced for those who do not have time at other times (and whose practice they do not control), parents commit recklessness and carelessness, etc. And above all it is worth emphasizing that 'an accident is not an uncontrollable and unpredictable environmental disease'.

Because they are unpredictable on many occasions, but not uncontrollable, why is it not the same as going to a circuit of jumps by bike with a helmet than without it?

Where do more accidents occur?

It especially affects pools (and beaches) because 'little can be done when a child falls into the water without anyone noticing.' Loss of consciousness is lost within two minutes, and the brain damage is irreversible at four or five minutes.

But in addition the former can cause injuries due to risky practices such as running or pushing to the edge, throwing from very high surfaces with respect to water, etc.

Every year accident statistics increase that occur during the realization of water sports, therefore it is necessary to lay the foundations for a good practice of the same and that affects not only the parents, but also the current legislation, the teaching of safety at different ages and , of course, to the quality of the material that is used in the practice of sports and summer games.

And finally remember the importance of when we go cycling with the children, we all wear the helmet, we as a precaution and as an example, they to be safe and internalize a safe practice.

Summer has to be fun, intense, and full of experiences for children, making it safer is our business, do not neglect!
