The male panda bear born at the Zoo Aquarium in Madrid in August 2013 will be called Xing Bao

Xing Bao or star treasure has been the name chosen by Internet users for the male panda bear born at the Zoo Aquarium in Madrid, on August 30, 2013. This is how the Chinese tradition is fulfilled, according to which, it has to grant an official name to the young at the age of three months as a symbol of desire that the baby panda live at least 100 years. Xing Bao is the Chinese denomination of star treasure or his father's treasure in clear allusion to its parent, Bing xing, ice star. From now on, Xing or Estrella will be the puppy's official last name and Bao or Treasure, his first name.

With only three months of life, Xing Bao has become a strong and healthy panda bear of almost six kilos which, in recent weeks, has begun to develop greater strength in its hind legs and to show the first incisors that will allow it to chew the bamboo leaves after six months.

It will not be until two years when little Bao becomes independent from his mother Hua Zui Ba, once he stops breastfeeding, and is totally self-sufficient. Meanwhile, Tesoro de Estrella has become one of the most loved and visited babies of Zoo Aquarium in Madrid during weekends and holidays because from 12:30 to 14:30 it is possible to visit him while resting in his wooden crib.

And to celebrate the Christmas holidays Xing Bao will have a replica among the figures that make up the Bethlehem. It can be found in front of the pagoda and in the arms of his mother.

We take this opportunity to remember the results of the vote to name the Panda bear. Xing Bao has obtained 39% of the votes, followed very closely by Xi Fu (fortune or gift from Spain) with 27%. The three remaining proposals, De Bao (small from Madrid), De Mao (cat from Madrid) and De Fu (gift from Madrid) have obtained 14%, 12% and 8%, respectively.

For my generation, the first popular baptism at Zoo Aquarium in Madrid was that of Chulin in 1982, a name that means Treasure among bamboo and that he honored his place of birth and the most traditional way of naming Madrid people. The twins born in 2010 received the name of Po o innocent nature Y De De, colloquial way of referring to Madrid in Mandarin. Xing Bao or Star Treasure It has been the name chosen for this fourth male panda bear born on August 30, 2013 and we will surely see many more.

Madrid is full of posters of the Zoo encouraging us to visit this space and participate in the evolution of Xing Bao. Undoubtedly, another great attraction for these Christmas parties in Madrid.
