Story of the Magi: when it's time to talk with your children about Christmas

Sooner or later, sometimes sooner than we would like, it's time to talk to children about Christmas. Normally, until 6, 7, 8, children maintain the fantasy that the Magi give gifts to all the children in the world. But one good day, either because another child will tell it or because their own maturity will make them reason that it is impossible for three people to leave gifts in all the houses of the world, and on camels, however magical they may be, it will be necessary to sit down and talk with them.

For that moment, or if you consider that it is better to tell them this less fanciful version since they are young, that there are parents who prefer it, I leave this beautiful story of the Magi that will be very good for you to keep.

When the Child Jesus was born, three Kings who came from the East guided by a great star approached the portal to worship him. They brought him gifts in proof of love and respect, and the Child became so happy and seemed so happy that the oldest of the Kings, Melchor, said:

- It's wonderful to see a child so happy! We should bring gifts to all the children in the world and see how happy they would be.

- Oh yeah! exclaimed Gaspar. It is a good idea, but it is very difficult to do. We will not be able to bring gifts to as many millions of children as there are in the world.

In Babies and more, is there an age at which children should stop believing in Santa Claus or the Magi?

Baltasar, the third of the Kings, who was listening to his two companions with a cheerful face, commented:

- It is true that it would be fantastic, but Gaspar is right and, although we are magicians, we are already old and it would be very difficult for us to travel the whole world giving gifts to all children. But it would be so pretty.

The three Kings became very sad to think that they could not realize their wish. And the Infant Jesus, who from his poor crib seemed to listen very attentively, smiled and his voice was heard on the portal:

- You are very good, dear Magi, and I thank you for your gifts. I will help you achieving your beautiful desire. Tell me: what do you need to be able to bring gifts to all the children?

- Oh! We would need millions and millions of pages, almost one for each child that could take our gifts to each house at the same time, but we cannot have so many pages, there are not so many.

"Do not worry about it," said the Child. I am going to give you not one, but two pages for every child in the world.

- It would be fantastic! But how is it possible? - said the three wise men at the same time with a look of surprise and admiration.

- Tell me, isn't it true that the pages you would like to have should love children very much?

- Yes, of course, that is fundamental-, the three Kings agreed.

- And, shouldn't these pages know the children's wishes very well?

- Yes Yes. That is what we would demand from a page - the three of them responded more and more enthusiastically.

- Then tell me, dear Reyes: is there anyone who loves children more and knows them better than their own parents?

The three Kings looked at each other nodding and beginning to understand what the Infant Jesus was planning, when his voice was heard again:

- Since you have wanted it that way and that in the name of the Three Wise Men of the East all the children of the world receive some gifts, I order that at Christmas, commemorating these moments, all the parents become your pages, and that in your name, and on your part give your children the gifts they want. I also order that, as long as the children are young, the delivery of gifts is made as if they were made by the Magi. But when children are old enough to understand this, parents will tell them this story and remember that thanks to the Three Wise Men, everyone is happier.
