The Madrid City Council prohibits the launching of candies in the Three Kings' Cavalcade (in the non-fenced streets)

Although it may seem innocent, the news is true: Madrid City Council has banned the launch of candy during the next Three Kings Parade in all streets of the route that are not fenced.

The reason is to ensure the safety of the attendees and avoid accidents such as the very sad death of a 6-year-old boy last year in Malaga, who was hit by a float after trying to reach the candies that had fallen under it.

No candy or any other type of gift can be thrown during the entire journey on those streets that are not fenced to prevent candies bouncing on the asphalt and falling under the trucks, with the consequent risk when trying to reach them from the ground.

On the other hand, they can be launched in those sections that are fenced, because in theory the aforementioned risk is avoided.

The measure seems to have a certain contradiction, because those who accompany the Kings Cavalcade on foot will be able to launch them to the attendees, regardless of the section of the route in which they are located.

In addition to the well-known Three Kings Parade that runs through the center of Madrid on January 5 and that many television networks broadcast live, in the different neighborhoods of Madrid horseback riding is held on the eve of Kings and these are precisely the most affected , because they lack fencing for much or all of their route.

The neighbors they seem quite unhappy With the measure, especially those who have been preparing the floats for the parade, let's not forget that in districts such as Carabanchel, Villaverde or Hortaleza it is the neighbors themselves who design and build their floats without financial assistance from the Madrid City Council.

What do you think of the measure? Does it mean ending a tradition that was almost part of Christmas itself? Do you think that the measure of the Madrid City Council to ban the launch of candy during the Three Kings Parade Is it adequate and should it be extended to all the Horse Riding that is celebrated throughout Spain?
