Outrageous! Doctors taking selfies with women while they deliver

We have spoken on several occasions of outrageous situations towards the woman who is giving birth, but this is the last thing we needed to see: doctors who take selfies with women while they deliver.

"Madam, I can take care of the delivery, but first let me take a selfie ..." is the phrase that has been written by the obstetrics student Daniel Sánchez, from Venezuela, next to a photo (which you can see below) uploaded to his account Instagram In the picture you can see him with a woman behind her naked from the waist down in the middle of the birth process while another doctor is touching her vagina.

You don't give credit, right? Can you imagine what happened to you while you are giving birth? That is to show absolute contempt for the woman in one of the most important moments of her life. A denigrating deal that in addition to the undesirable that the selfie has done, I cannot believe that all the people who were there at that time did not say anything and the photo has come to light. Will it be usual?

But that is not all. The description of the photo continues: "Carajitos are brought to the world and totis are reconstructed, they are left as new, almost 0 kilometers.

According to him, the patient is respected since "the genitals and the face are not seen" and in addition, she gave her consent. Even if it were true, it is still a despicable attitude. The woman was not for photos at that time, Where is the respect for your privacy?

From now on the doctor's account is blocked and a petition for signatures has been launched, promoted by The Revolution of the Roses, a global movement against obstetric violence, to investigate Daniel Sánchez for the publication of photos in social networks that threaten the dignity of women.

The caesarean selfie

It is not the only case, surely. In the archive of the newspaper La República de Perú the photo of two medical students posing next to the body of a naked and still anesthetized woman after having a C-section. It is not strictly a selfie, but the lack of respect is the same.

Obstetric violence

If obstetric violence translates into abuse of power, disrespect for the woman who is giving birth, violate her privacy, neglect, in addition to the unpleasant comments about her sexuality (such as leaving her as new or referring to the points of episiotomy suture) this is one more example of obstetric violence that cannot be tolerated.

How do these doctors see the woman who will give birth? How simple vaginas that expel children? Health professionals, no matter whether they are doctors, students or nurses, are here to accompany women in their physiological process, provide support and assistance respecting their needs at all levels. Taking or taking pictures with them is really outrageous.
