The exhibition and workshop on "David Hockney. Six stories of the Grimm brothers" is very entertaining for families

We had a lot of fun in the workshop and in the exhibition of David Hockney Six stories of the Grimm brothers. This is an exhibition that includes more than 30 prints created in 1969 by the versatile artist David Hockney (England, 1937) and that illustrate six tales of the Grimm brothers: Rapunzel, Juan Fearless, Rumplestiltskin, The Dwarf Jumpman, The Old Rinkrank, The Marine Lebrato and Piñoncito. In the stories you can see values, which are easily recognizable by children, such as constancy, cunning, bravery, companionship, freedom or love. And in the engravings, Hockney develops atmospheres or details with a focus on the magical elements of the stories.

David Hockney is one of the most sought-after living artists and one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. He develops all disciplines (painting, photography, illustration, drawing and set design) and his graphic work has acquired great importance within his creative proposal.

In the exhibition you can see that Hockney elected important scenes and images to reflect an emotion or situation. And that is what will then have to be done in the children's workshop in which we choose a comic format to illustrate Rapunzel's story by focusing on the scenes that we believe would contribute. In addition, after drawing and reviewing them with pencil, then we decorate them with watercolor. The organization left us some covers and now we have a Rapunzel comic made in the workshop and that we will keep with love.

The workshops are for two groups of kids: children from 3 to 6 and from 7 to 12 years old. In the workshop children will use their imagination, pencils and watercolors to create their own illustrated story and will make a brief visit to the exhibition hall to compare their illustrations with those of David Hockney. And so they will discover coincidences, differences and details that will be surprising.

The approximate duration of the visit and the workshop is two hours. It is for children of 3-6 years, accompanied by an adult, on Saturdays at 12:00 and at 17:00. For children 7-12 years old, also accompanied by an adult, the schedule is on Sundays at 12:00 and at 17:00.

The exhibition has just opened and will last until April 14, 2013 . It has a price per participant of 5 euros. The Canal Foundation, where the exhibition is held, is in Mateo Inurria, 2 in Madrid.
