A two-year-old boy with spina bifida is able to move freely thanks to an invention of his parents

Brody Ray was born in April 2017 with spina bifida, a defect of the spinal cord. The doctors informed their parents that they would have little or no mobility from the waist down.

So helping him to move became the priority of Taylor and Ally Moreland, their parents, as they explain when talking about 'The Frog' (frog), an own invention that get little Brody to move around the house with freedom.

Brody's movement difficulty

If parents are capable of anything, it is to face the difficulties of their children and fight to reverse or at least improve them. And this story proves it.

Brody went through two surgeries as soon as he was born and another four more during his first year of life. But even though Brody's doctors and neurosurgeons did a great job, explain his parents Taylor and Ally Moreland, his defective level plus his spinal cord atrophy meant that little Brody would have little or no movement or control of the lower part of your body: "Brody could not sit without support, crawl, or be able to move on his own in any way."

So they got to work and between the two they developed a new mobility device for babies, toddlers and children who have difficulty moving their legs. They called it 'The Frog'.

They explain the reason for the idea and the process until it was forged:

"With the help of his great physiotherapist, and a lot of practice, Brody was able to use a baby wheelchair to maneuver around the house. This was very exciting, but Brody was still not able to play on the floor, go to certain places , or interacting with toys the way other children their age do. Brody needed a solution to crawl. "

In Babies and more "It is vital to have information when you discover in pregnancy and you feel disconcerted," we talked to the mother of a girl with spina bifida

So, "After numerous long nights and trial and error tests", they created the first 'The Frog', in September 2018. They say it meant a real life change for their son.

"Brody was trapped on the ground wherever we put it, and it was very difficult for him to play with most of his toys. After he started using the new device with wheels, he started wandering around the house, chasing the cat, playing with toys and do the same as any baby who crawls. For the first time he was able to truly explore his world. "

Good for children's cognitive development

This simple device with wheels and restraint systems, allows children over six months to go from one place to another freely using their hands.

According to Taylor, at first his son used to move a 'scooter board', a board with wheels, but he constantly caught his hands with the wheels, something he already corrected with his invention.

Children need to investigate on their own and arouse their curiosity, something essential for their cognitive development.

In addition, 'The Frog' strengthens the muscles of the shoulders, neck and back and play with other children at the same level.

In Babies and more This is how the brain of children works: keys of an expert to favor their development

Its creators add that due to the ease with which it moves through all types of floors (even with carpets), "It motivates children who would otherwise have difficulty moving, propelling themselves forward or backward."

In this video, which your parents have shared in the GoFundme account, "Created to produce more devices and help more children with mobility problems", you can see how Brody uses it.

It costs about 260 euros and is already being used by 20 more children. The only conditions to use it are to have more than six months, be able to keep your head up for more than 15 seconds, move your arms and tolerate being face down.
