On a day like today, which marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we add to the feeling conveyed by this beautiful short film that has reached the depths of our hearts.

Achieving a better world for children with disabilities is possible if, as parents, we educate our children in respect, understanding and tolerance to others. For this, information and awareness about disability is essential, because many times, the main barriers these children face are not the architectural barriers.

In Spain there are 140,000 children with disabilities

More than 1 billion people worldwide (approximately 15 percent of the population) live with some type of disability, physical or mental, and of them, 150 million are children.

According to UNICEF figures, in Spain there are more than 60,000 children, aged between zero and five years, with some type of disability, and more than 78,000 between six and 15 years.

Children with disabilities have certain physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments that, by interacting with various barriers, prevent them from fully and effectively participating in society in the same conditions with other people.

The objective of the different organizations is to ensure the safety and well-being of children with disabilities, because as we mentioned at the beginning, they are the most vulnerable group against isolation, violence and bullying. Ignorance is, in large part, responsible for the stigmatization and discrimination suffered by disabled people, hence the importance of educating our children in love, empathy and respect for others.

Another of the big problems that some of the children with disabilities face, is the absence of a quality inclusive education that allows them to not only train in ordinary schools, but share time with peers, which would certainly help to raise awareness about the different types of disabilities.

This year's motto on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, focuses on the empowerment of people with disabilities to ensure sustainable, inclusive and equal development. Let's reach out to get it!
