That my baby is not the first baby of the year

A friend had the expected date of delivery on December 28. However, in our opinion the innocent would have been that the baby was born a little later ... We commented funny that, if the baby was delayed, it could be that "first baby of the year" we see in the news every January 1.

As the first babies of the year in Spain, who were born last night just after the chimes and are called Graciela, Alejandro, Iris and Iria. The last two share the supposed honor of being the first babies to be born in 2010, one in Ourense and the other in Vigo, just at twelve o'clock at night.

Seven seconds later Graciela arrived in Catalonia and a few years later Alejandro, the first child born in Spain in 2010. The truth is that parents seem very happy when they are interviewed on television or see some of their photographs. But I would not like to be in his place.

Apart from some gifts that have sometimes been made to these first babies (free bread for a year, or diapers ...), which can be a good saving and I would accept without hesitation, I would not like my babies to have been one of the first of the year. At least if this involves putting in our room television cameras and reporters to account for the "feat."

Not even knowing that I could refuse his presence in the room (there was more), and just the fact that they came to ask permission could annoy, first of all the baby, but also the mother who just gave birth.

Reasonable doubts regarding the first babies of the year

At this point, many questions arise: do they put on televisions and newspapers? a reporter on duty at each hospital to find out the deliveries of the night? Do you call the medical centers by phone? Can hospitals give this information to the media without parental consent? Will there be parents to notify the media themselves?

If the birth occurs in a small town or home, would we find out that first baby of the year? And if I am born in the Canary Islands, can I never be the first baby of the year in Spain? And the main thing, are they the first babies of the year that we see in the news on January 1 the real first babies of the year?

Well, without taking away the "merit" to the kids we see in the news on such a day as today, I'm afraid not. And all without counting that in Australia or in China thousands of babies have been born for a few hours ... By which I mean that babies are born every second somewhere in the world, in different coordinates, in different calendars and even where they do not even conceive the Time as our culture understands.

Regardless of jokes and obvious answers, if we focus on the sources, we know that the news speaks that the names and the moment of birth of the children are given by "official" sources, that is, health services and health counseling, which leads me to wonder about the convenience of this point, I do not know whether of legality. Or is it that the lists of babies born during the night are made public every day?

The fact is that I am grateful that my babies have not been the first of the year, especially considering that they are moments that I think you have to live in as much privacy and relaxation as possible. That is why I include myself among the discreet families, within the typology of families that we find in the maternity plant of the hospital.

Y if my baby was the first of the year, I sign up for another calendar in which there is no change on December 31, such as the Chinese calendar ... Please, we will have the party later. Which does not take away so that I do not say goodbye without first congratulating all those parents who have been with the new year 2010, whether they have been in the news or not. !! Congratulations!!
